So the ‘Ex Gay’ Christian fundamentalists have fired a warning shot at the permissive society, striking a blow for morality and hoping to achieve exactly what? The recent ‘Ex Gay’ aborted campaign is offensive to be, and to an inclusive society. I don’t want to write about freedom of speech issues, these only apply when they don’t insight hatred or intolerance, I want to blog about the damage these Christians are causing.
I am a Gay Christian, that puts me right in the firing line, some would say that the term ‘Gay’ and ‘Christian’ are mutually exclusive, but I say lets stop putting labels on each other, talk to each other and respect each other’s views, not necessarily agree with them, but lets respect one another. I have this feeling that this Christian Right Wing insurgency is not what Jesus Christ actually wants, and it is in the name of Jesus Christ that these people are trying to ‘convert’ gay people -STOP! – I am begining to fight them!
Right, let me start again I am gay, and I am happy to be gay, and I respect anyone who is not gay, I also do not try to convert anyone to being gay (even though, as everyone knows, we get a Toaster for each person we convert!) and even the title of the blog is wrong, I was never straight and don’t want to be, thank you. I would like to be a Christian, that sounds pretty cool, and I don’t want my faith taken away from me because you can’t accept me as I am – you know like Jesus accepted the Samaritan woman.
Jesus never said much about being gay, wait, there was that big speech he was going to make right after Easter …..
Sarcasm aside, I am not ill either, a woman from Mainstream, one of the organisers of the poster event, Rev Lynda Rose, said I would be welcomed in her Church like an alcoholic would – thank you, I am sure Jesus would just welcome me. I am not sure what the gay to straight conversions want to achieve, and where in the Bible it said they have the authority to play about with people’s psyche as if they were God, wait a second I seem to remember that Holy Spirit was supposed to change people, wait I am a Gay Christians, whoops!
The saddest thing about the ‘EX Gay’ fiasco is that it alienates the very people who God wants to fill his Churches, and it drives gay people away from the Church, they are causing division, they are fuelling homophobia and I am personally disgusted that thinking Christians can be sucked into believing that I can be ‘cured’ – I can’t be cured because I was born this way, this is the way God intended me to be. I have tried the ‘I am not Gay and God change me’ and that does not work, it makes you someone you are not, someone you cannot be, someone you were not meant to be.
Anglican Mainstream and Core Issue Trust are implying that I am ill, I am abnormal, and that is wrong – all I ask is that you respect me, and I will respect your views.
My message to any Christian wanting to turn me ‘straight’ is that you are bringing the love of Christ into disrepute and you should prayerfully ask our God if this is right, I think the answer is NO
